A letter from Steve Beaumont, 2026 Captain
To the Members of Burstwick Country Golf,
After we finally achieved a successful Captain’s Drive-In on 21st February, it is a huge honour to be writing to you as the incoming 2026 Men's Captain. To step up as the 18th Captain of this fantastic club is a privilege, and I am looking forward to a year filled with competition, camaraderie, and hopefully, some decent golf from us all.
A Tribute to Our Outgoing Captain
Before I outline my plans for the year, I must say a massive thank you to our immediate Past Captain, Lee Sargeson.
I want to thank Lee for his great stewardship during my year as Vice Captain; he has been a brilliant mentor and friend. We have had a great laugh representing the club at every Hull & District Captains’ invitational event over the last year, meeting some interesting characters and making some fantastic friends along the way.
I think we can all agree that Lee’s dedication to the members has been second to none. He has also raised an insurmountable amount of money for his charities. If I can bring half as much energy to the role as Lee has, I’ll be doing well.
My Vice Captain: Lee Carrick
I also want to take a moment to welcome my Vice Captain for the year, Lee Carrick. Lee has already been incredibly supportive and engaged in the planning for the season ahead. I am really looking forward to his company on the fairways and at events this year, and it will be a pleasure to show him the ropes as he prepares for his own Captaincy in 2027.
My Chosen Charity: The MS Society
For my Captain’s Charity this year, I have chosen the MS Society, a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
My mum has lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 30 years. MS is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms. Despite living with this condition for three decades, my mum has always maintained such a positive outlook on life. Her resilience is my inspiration for this year, and I want to do whatever I can to support the research and care that the MS Society provides to families like mine.
The Plan for 2026
I haven't set a specific financial target; my only goal is simply to raise as much as we possibly can to make a real difference for this incredible cause. However, I am acutely aware that asking for any financial support is never easy, and I know that charity donations are perhaps harder to justify than ever in 2026 and beyond. Please know that your generosity is sincerely heartfelt and deeply, deeply appreciated.
To help the cause along the way, I’ve got a busy calendar of events planned, including:
Captain’s Charity Open Am-Am (Saturday 18th July 2026)
Race Night (Date TBC)
A Hyrox Event (Send help!)
Captain’s Away Weekend: We are heading to the stunning Carden Park in Cheshire on August 22nd–23rd, 2026.
My Personal Pledge
I’m also putting my own money on the line. I'd like to think I’m fairly steady on the greens on a good day, but I am committing to donate £1 personally for every 3-putt I make in competition during my captaincy.
Why Support Us?
Whether it’s a pound for every three-putt I make in competition this year, or a generous donation from you, every penny really counts.
£5 could provide information packs for someone newly diagnosed.
£20 could fund an hour of vital research into new treatments.
£100 could help run a local support group for a month.
Golf is a game of coordination and nerve - things that MS cruelly takes away from so many. Let’s use our luck on the course to help those who need it most.
