Who will win 1,000 Range Balls in our June Members' FREE Monthly Prize Draw?

To thank our awesome members for their loyalty, we have introduced a Monthly Members’ Prize Draw in which we’ll pick one member at random each month for a chosen prize, it’s that simple!

Andy Coult won last month’s prize which was a Steak Night for two!

Who will win the June prize? Up for grabs we have a card for 1,000 balls on the driving range, good luck everyone!

Thank you to the members from Matt Daley

It’s been nearly three months since I joined the team at Burstwick, and it has flown by!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the members at the club who have made me feel very welcome, and already part of the family at Burstwick.

The reception I have received since October has been humbling and I know that I haven’t quite met everyone yet, but I’m sure I will get to know you all at some point soon, it’s just that I have been putting every ounce of effort into the studio to make sure it was completed as soon as possible.

Many of you will be aware that when I joined the club my aim was to create the best teaching facility in the whole of the East Riding area, with the best technology, knowledge and expertise, and I see this as a fantastic facility for the members of Burstwick, whether it be for lessons or for hiring with friends to play on the virtual golf simulator.

The studio is now complete and I would love all of the members to come and have a look so if you see me in the clubhouse don’t hesitate to grab me and I will gladly show you around.

Also I would just like to say a big thank you to Alan and family for their support and patience throughout, you have all made me feel so welcome and have been a massive help in my start at the club.

So a huge thank you to all members, staff and family of Burstwick Country Golf. It means a lot!

Regards
Matt Daley

More Hands, Less Work! Can You Help?

We are holding a volunteer night on Thursday 8th June 2017 from 6-7:30pm. The idea, which was founded by one of our members, is that we can use a volunteer crew to do some small jobs that will add up to make a big difference around the club.

In the first session of our volunteer club, we will be tasking ourselves with painting the wooden posts around the car park. Of course, we don't like to ask for help without offering an incentive or thank you, so we will be putting sandwiches and chips on for those who help us on the night.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself! We'll supply the brushes and paint for the job. Just make sure you're wearing something old (but comfortable) that you don't mind getting the odd splash of paint on.

How much work is there to do?

There are plenty of little jobs that our staff are trying to get round to but often don't have time, so by running the volunteer club once a month through the summer, it will help us get the club in tip-top shape!

The best bit is that everyone benefits. As a member of Burstwick, anybody who helps out will not only feel a great sense of satisfaction but also enjoy the fruits of their labour every time they come to the club!

The Captains get Fantastic Support for their Drive In!

On behalf of the Men's, Ladies', Seniors' and Juniors' Captains the club would like to thank the plethora of members who supported the Captains' Drive In on Saturday, it was an event that was full to the brim!

Not only did the Captains have a great Drive In but they managed to have a storming round and win the Texas Scramble as well! An unbelievable score of 52.8 was enough to win the scramble by 1.2 shots from second place, out of 17 teams altogether who played.

Well done to the four captains and thanks again for all of the members’ support on the day!

Tee Times Available for Men's Invitation Day

Do you have any golfing friends in the Hull & East Riding area, or even further afield? Why not invite them to come and play at Burstwick in our Men's Invitation Day on Saturday 17th September 2016? Entry costs £10 per member which includes the guest's green fee and competition entry for the pair.

The sheet is up in the clubhouse now for members to put their names along with their guests. Members must have a minimum of 2 guests per fourball to play within these times on the Invitation Day. Members can bring 3 guests if they wish.

Burstwick Members will Now Benefit from Local Clubs' Reciprocal Deal

We had some great news delivered to us on Tuesday; something that we're very excited to tell golfers about.

There is a reciprocal deal between a handful of local clubs that has been going for a few years now, and it means that any members at these clubs can play any of the other clubs involved for £10 on a weekday or £15 on a weekend. The clubs involved in the group are:

Beverley and East Riding Golf ClubFlamborough Head Golf ClubMalton & Norton Golf Club
Bridlington Belvedere Golf ClubHainsworth Park Golf ClubScarborough North Cliff Golf Club
Bridlington Links Golf ClubHornsea Golf ClubScarborough South Cliff Golf Club
Driffield Golf ClubKP ClubWhitby Golf Club
Filey Golf ClubKirkbymoorside Golf Club

As this is essentially a closed group, we could not include ourselves within the reciprocal deal without each of the clubs’ permission, and it’s something we have desired for a while now.

Today we're very proud to say that Burstwick has now become part of this fantastic reciprocal group! I am delighted for two reasons: a) It’s a fantastic benefit for members at Burstwick to be able to play some of these great courses at such a low price, and b) more people from other clubs will come and try Burstwick who maybe wouldn’t have done before. It really is fantastic to be part of this group and I can’t wait to see what it brings.

To book a round on this deal you have to go through the office at your own club so please speak to Alan when you would like to take part.

Do you know what an East Riding Union members meeting is? It's a game of golf at a great price!

Want to play another course for a fraction of the cost and compete for great prizes?

Why not put your name down for one of the East Riding Union members’ events?

There are four events throughout the year and entry is open to any Burstwick member with a handicap, and costs just £12.50 per person for the Betterball events and £15 per person for the Am-Ams. The following events are available for entry:

  • Thursday 5th May – 15:40pm tee time

Fourball Betterball (Pairs) @ Driffield Golf Club - £12.50pp

  • Thursday 2nd June – 15:40pm tee time

Am-Am @ Bridlington Links Golf Club - £15.00pp

  • Thursday 30th June – 15:40pm tee time

Am-Am @ Burstwick Country Golf - £15.00pp

The Presentation Night was a Blast!

On Saturday 12th March we hosted our annual presentation evening and we saw 120 tickets sell out for the third year in a row.

With the clubhouse full to brimming, members and guests enjoyed a fantastic night. I talked on the microphone about how far the club has come and what the future holds, then outgoing Men’s Captain Andy Wilson thanked the members for their great support for his year before handing over to this year’s Captain Alan Mackinnon who talked about his hopes for the year.

Then the prize presentation took place with notable winners Lewis Hunt and Laura Key taking more than five awards each!

After the presentation guests enjoyed a freshly prepared hot buffet by our chefs and the DJ turned the music up for everyone to dance the night away. It was another outstanding social event at the club and here’s looking forward to the next one!

Fantastic Turn Out for Captain's Drive In Despite Damp Weather

On Saturday we hosted our 2016 Captains' Drive In, where we welcomed in the new Captains for the year and said good bye to 2015's. Early on Saturday morning the rain came down and it came down hard, so much so that there was a point when the Drive In was nearly called off!

But the hardy members at Burstwick arrived at the club to support the Captains while they teed off at 8am, and then continued to enter the Texas Scramble throughout the morning. It was a testament to members' when 17 out of 19 teams played in such horrid conditions, because when the rain stopped at 1pm the wind followed with a vengeance!

After the competition the Captains laid on home-made beef stew for the players, cooked freshly by our chefs at Café Nineteen - just what the doctor ordered!

Once all the members were back in outgoing Men's Captain Andy Wilson thanked the members for a great year and introduced his replacement Alan Mackinnon, who explained what his intentions were for raising money for his nominated charity, Cash for Kids.

Alan Key finished off by thanking all of the 2015 Captains and members for their support, and finished by wishing the four 2016 Captains Alan Mackinnon, Laura Key, Peter Roberts (Seniors) and Harry Giles (Juniors) the very best for the coming year.
