Spring Am-Am pays for New Hole Cutter for Greenkeepers

Many of our members may have been wondering what the money from the Spring Open Am-Am fundraiser went towards, as we haven’t made any announcements yet.

The reason is we have been passing some ideas around the Competition Committee with regards to how best spend the money and get the most benefits on the golf course. In the past we have spent the money on bins, benches, ball washers and bunker rakes, but we agreed at the last meeting that nothing in regards to course furniture really jumps out as needing renewing at the moment, and that priorities lie elsewhere.

With that in mind a suggestion was made about a new hole cutter for the greenkeepers, since the main issue we have on the golf course right now with the bunkers and greens having vastly improved is that we are having inconsistencies with the old holes when we are changing pin placements.

This week we had a demonstration of a top of the range piece of equipment called the iPro by BMS, which is used by the best courses on tour, but is at the same time very expensive at around £1,000.

That’s why the committee voted in favour of putting the £720 raised from the Spring Am-Am towards this new hole cutter, and that members will see the instant benefit which will keep the holes consistent for years to come.

Matt Daley’s Am-Am filling up already

This April we will be hosting the first annual fundraising Am-Am for our new professional Matt Daley. It is the first event of it’s kind to be held at Burstwick, and it follows on from when Matt held the same event when he was at Hainsworth Park Golf Club.

The Am-Am is open to all players at any club as long as they have a valid handicap and entry costs just £20 per person, including a bacon roll and coffee!

Matt’s Am-Ams previously were extremely successful and it looks like this one will be just as popular as we already have over 20 teams booked for the day.

If you would like to take part in this event go online to www.opens.burstwick.golf and book your team in now!

Last week we held our annual Ladies Xmas Open Am-Am and Mother Nature blessed us with a more than acceptable day for golf, which remained dry and not too cold. We had a full compliment of teams in the 10:30am shotgun start, and scoring was quite tough on the day with only the top three teams shooting under par scores.

Congratulations to the winning team consisting of our Lady Captain Sarah Leonard, Cathy Greenwood, Chris Wicks and Ann Roberts, with a score of 74 pts, winning on the back nine.

Thank you to all that attended the event, we hope to see you all again next year!

Enter your team into the Spring Open Am-Am - Raising funds for Course Furniture!

The Spring Am-Am has now been re-arranged for 21st April due to extreme weather conditions. All tee times have been rolled over to that date.

Our first open event of the year is already around the corner; the Spring Open Am-Am. This competition is open to all golfers from any club as long as they have a valid handicap, and entry costs just £80 per team.

As always with our first open of the year, money raised will be put towards some furniture for the golf course. We have not made the decision on what we would like for the course yet but to give you an idea of what to expect, last year we bought some hand-made wooden bins, and in 2016 we bought some recycled plastic benches.

We still provide great prizes for this Am-Am, despite the fact that a good portion of the money is raised for the furniture, so we expect a nice amount of teams to take part as usual.

We appreciate every team that enters this event as it helps us improve the course for the people who play it. If you fancy a great day out for just £20 a person why not give us a call on 01964 670112 and book your team in? Times are available from 8am to 1pm.

Christmas Open Am-Am postponed until Saturday 18th November

Last Saturday we were due to host our 2017 Christmas Open Am-Am but due to persistent rain we had to call the competition off and postpone it until Saturday 18th November.

All the teams will remain in their original tee time slot unless we are told otherwise, so please let us know if you cannot make the rearranged date.

Let's hope for better weather the second time around and we'll see you on the first tee!

Scores reflect great weather at the Seniors' Xmas Invitation

Today we held our 2017 Seniors' Xmas Invitational, and Mother Nature gave us fantastic conditions for the event, showcasing the course in a great light. This competition is an open pair's event which is divided into four age categories: 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75+. With very little wind and quite mild conditions the winning scores in each category where all very worthy, two of the home pairs that came in with 46 points each thought they would have walked away with the top prizes but they were pipped by some cracking scores from away pairings!

Seniors Spring Invitational Results

Despite the drab weather three days beforehand, Mother Nature was for once kind to golfers on Monday 18th April, when we held our Seniors' Spring Invitational Betterball. Organiser of the event, John Dickins, had been working hard to get things ready for the event, and had managed to attract 80 players from all over Yorkshire to come and play at Burstwick.

The competition results were split into four age categories, and despite a fairly stiff wind there were some great scores on the day.

Thank you for your Support in the Course Furniture Am-Am!

LAST Saturday was our re-arranged Open Am-Am which was raising funds for course furniture at Burstwick and we had a great turn out.

After the original event - which was due to be held on March 5 - was cancelled due to inclement weather, we were forced to re-arrange the golf day at short notice, and to be quite honest I was fearing that due to other commitments we would see a lot of teams drop
out.

Course Furniture Fundraising Am-Am

Knowing that putting teams together for these type of events take a lot of organising for people (let’s be honest we all have jobs, families, other hobbies, etc), I was quietly hoping that we would achieve 20 teams, after the original event had 26 booked in, but running up to the event during the week things were starting to look promising, with phone calls left, right and centre from golfers confirming their tee times.

In the end we were just three teams shy of the original number, which we were absolutely delighted with! Especially considering the circumstances.

This meant that we could still afford to invest £1,000 in furniture for the course, which has resulted in four heavy-duty recycled plastic benches which are now in our maintenance shed waiting to be put out. Watch this space and you will soon see them being put out on the golf course, and thanks to everyone who supported us!

Spring Open Am-Am, raising funds for course furniture - Saturday 5th March 2016

Put your team into our Spring Open Am-Am on Saturday 5th March, it promises to be a great day! Teams cost just £80 to enter, and men, ladies and juniors are all welcome to compete. The event is in aid of raising money to go towards buying new furniture for the course (bins, benches, etc), so the more support we get the more the course will benefit!

Great Day at the Ladies Xmas Open Am-Am

On Monday we then held our annual Ladies’ Xmas Open Am-Am Shootgun in which 16 teams competed. Joanne Young’s team from Hainsworth won by a whopping six shots from the field with a great score of 78, with a hybrid team from Burstwick/Ganstead coming in second place on 72. Click here for the full results.

With a fantastic prize table on offer the top eight teams went away very happy and deservedly so after those great scores in, again, conditions that weren’t easy at all.
