After becoming the Burstwick Country Golf 2017 Club Champion last week, Jack Maxey has continued his great form over the last 10 days with some very notable performances.
On Wednesday Jack competed in the Yorkshire Union Under 16s Boys’ Championship at Shipley, and finished a very impressive fourth place, just four shots off the lead after 36 holes. The next day he played in the East Riding Union Boys’ Championship at Hainsworth Park, and after a slightly rocky second round managed to beat the talented Tom Duck in a play-off after 36 holes to win the championship.
Not finished with this fantastic form, Jack earned his first call up to the East Riding Men’s scratch team to play against league leaders Sheffield Union, and Jack was the second highest point scorer for the Union!
Finally, Jack won both his matches in the East Riding Union Junior Matchplay tournament, meaning that he will be in the semi-final on August 27 at Hull Golf Club.
Lewis Hunt, another gifted Junior at the club also had a good week with a third place finish in the ERU Boys' Championship, just two shots off Jack and Tom's finishing score, and Lewis also won both of his ERU Junior Matchplay matches meaning that him and Jack are representing Burstwick as 50% of the semi final field!
Needless to say we are extremely proud of these young men who have been at Burstwick since very young ages, and we will be supporting them all the way!
On Monday 30th May Junior Captain Harry Giles hosted his Captain's Day at the club, and the day went perfectly. Fourteen juniors turned up to play in the event which consisted of a nine-hole warmup and an 18 hole Stableford competition. Harry's parents put on a half-way house treat for the kids as they played, making sure they had enough energy to go on and complete the day.
The winner on the day with a fantastic score of 44 points off a 25 handicap was Matthew McDonnell, a great round from the youngster! In second and third were Jack Maxey and Lewis Hunt, who both shot very steady rounds in windy conditions.
Well done to all that played and congratulations to Harry on hosting a fantastic day.
Burstwick Junior Captain Lewis Hunt, Jack Maxey and Harry Giles went to Ganton Golf Club on Tuesday to compete in the East Riding Junior League Final after winning the South East Division earlier this summer.
It was the first time Burstwick have reached the junior final and the lads were very excited to represent their club after a great season. The clubs who won the other two divisions were also there, Hessle Golf Club (South West Division winners) and Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club (North East Division winners), each with very talented junior golfers competing for them.
In the end it was Hessle GC who won the final with a fantastic performance, with Scarborough NC finishing second and Burstwick third.
Congratulations to the fantastic Hessle team on a great performance on a very blustery and difficult day. It was a great stepping stone for the Burstwick lads and hopefully we’ll be there again in 2016 to give it another go. Well done lads, onwards and upwards!
Today we hosted our first ever Junior Captain's Day at Burstwick and it turned out to be a fantastic day for the next generation of golfers at Burstwick. Captain Lewis Hunt hosted a 27 hole event with a 9 hole Texas Scramble in the morning followed by lunch and an 18 hole Individual Stableford in the afternoon.
Lewis continued his fine form of late with his best ever round, shooting a one-under-par 69 gross to win the competition by three points, ahead of Harry Giles and Tom Ward on 40 points.
Well done to all the juniors that played and made it such a great day, let's make it even better next year!
Our very own Lewis Hunt put in a fantastic performance at the East Riding Boys' Championship at Hornsea yesterday, shooting gross scores of 78+76 for an overall 154 score which lead him to second place by count-back over 3 other players including a one handicapper from Hull GC.
It was an excellent day's golfing from the youngster who has seen his handicap to 6.7 and is gunning for a place in the Scratch Matchplay Championship, hoping to beat Alan Key in the Semi Finals.
Well done Lewis!
Three Burstwick junior members represented South Holderness Technology College in the Yorkshire Schools Golf Association tournament and did themselves very proud with some great results!
Jack Maxey, Harry Giles and Lewis Hunt (left-to-right) competed at Malton and Norton Golf Club in the North & East region qualifiers, and the team of three managed a great performance, winning the East division for South Holderness TC.
This results qualified the school for the Yorkshire Finals, where the top two schools would go on to compete in the National Finals.
The three boys competed in the Yorkshire Finals at Lowlaithes Golf Club in Pontefract, and missed on on qualification by a slender margin of just three shots.
Our Junior Captain Lewis said that although they were disappointed to have not made the national finals, they were felt like they did their school and also Burstwick very proud by achieving what they did. We agree, it's fantastic news that these lads are doing so well, and with continued work on their game we know they'll have an even better chance to go further next year!
