On Tuesday 29th August we visited Ganton Golf Club, near Scarborough, to watch our Junior Team compete in the East Riding Union Junior League Final for 2017. The event consisted of three players from the finalist clubs, Burstwick, Hornsea and Scarborough North Cliff, and the format was an aggregate 18-hole stableford competition.

Burstwick looked the strongest team on paper with Jack Maxey (2 hcap), Lewis Hunt (4 hcap) and Alfie Tidder (9 hcap) representing the club, but as it was a handicapped event anything could happen on the day.

When spectating the event, which consists of three 3-balls with one player from each club in each group, it's difficult to judge which of the players are doing well and which are not. You never truly know how players are scoring, although you think you might have an idea.

In the end we are delighted and proud to say that the Burstwick lads won the event by five points, with Hornsea in second place and Scarborough in third. It was a fantastic performance from Jack Maxey (36 points), Lewis Hunt (37 points) and Alfie Tidder (31 points) to make a total of 104!

Hunt picked up the award for the best individual score and the lads were honoured with the title of Junior League Winners 2017. Well done to Lewis, Jack and Alfie, not forgetting Rob Hunt who is our Junior Organiser and works tirelessly with the help of the other parents to keep the team going throughout the season!

It really was a fantastic day for the club at the most picturesque course in the Union!
