There are a few spaces left for The Audio Room Pro-Am!

Our flagship event of the year, the annual Pro-Am sponsored by The Audio Room in Hull, is due to take place on Friday 24th May and is filling up nicely with teams from around the region.

Professionals will be competing for a fantastic £1,000 first prize, one of the highest in the region, but it’s not just about rewarding the professionals. Amateur teams will be competing for a prize table worth over £2,500, with the first team prize being worth over £800! Not bad for a day out on the golf course, eh?

There are still a handful of spaces left for the event so if you would like to be part of one of Burstwick’s biggest events drop us an email now .

Teams consist of three amateurs and a professional (who we can allocate for you, if required) and the day includes refreshments at various parts of the course including a fully stocked halfway house, and a two course meal afterwards.

Weather didn’t dampen most successful Pro-Am to date

On Friday 25th May we hosted our most high profile event of the year, the annual Pro-Am sponsored by The Audio Room. This event is run by the Yorkshire PGA, and attracts PGA Professionals from all over Yorkshire and further afield.

The day started with pouring rain and a forecast that was changing every half hour, but players remained positive and went out in the bad conditions to battle for the coveted prize pot worth over £6,000.

The first tee was at 10am and the rain stopped around 12pm, so the first 12 teams or so had to handle the rain in some shape or form, but the remaining 19 teams were lucky enough to stay dry throughout the afternoon.

In the end the top four teams and professional scores came from afternoon tee slots with the two winning professionals Matt Daley and Rob Calderbank shooting 67 in the afternoon. Home professional James Bisby put in a great score of 68 to finish tied third, which made many of the Burstwick members very happy.

The winning team consisted of James Bisby (pro), myself, Mark Webb and James Thompson, and with a score of -19 pipped another team of Burstwick members by one shot. I was personally delighted with the win, firstly because the first prize was fantastic but also because we (the same four players) placed very poorly in 2017, so we righted a few wrongs out there!

Thank you to all of the 124 players who attended, and also the volunteers who helped before and on the day:

Sarah Leonard & Kate Miskin (halfway house), Alex Foster, Darren Marks, Steve Alger, Craig Dodson, Mark Webb, and many more. We couldn’t have done it without you all!

Also a huge thank you to all of our sponsors who helped us achieve what we did at the event:

Alex Belt sets new Course Record at Burstwick in The Audio Room Pro-Am

Last Friday saw our most high profile event of the year held at Burstwick, the annual Pro-Am sponsored by The Audio Room.

For those who are unfamiliar with the format of a Pro-Am, teams enter the competition which consist of one PGA Professional and three amateur golfers. The four play as a team in Am-Am format (best two scores from four on each hole) while the Pro also has their own individual score marked for a separate leaderboard.

Our Pro-Am is one of the best value events in the area, with a total prize value of over £5,000 split between professionals and amateurs, while entry is just £195 per team. Not only is the prize table worth a huge amount, but we put on a great day for all guests with a free halfway house which includes a boat load of food, soft drinks and beers, we also throw in four nearest pin prizes as well as a straightest drive. As we pride ourselves as a restaurant that produces high quality food, the included two course meal of chicken with white wine sauce followed by a home-made cheesecake went down very well too!

Now on to the scores. Last year just one under par won the top professional prize, but Alex Belt was having none of that in 2017. As a past winner on the EuroPro Tour, I know that Alex has a huge talent worthy of reducing any golf course to it’s knees, and as such he has held the professional course record at Burstwick since 2008 when he shot 64 (six under par).

This year he decided that 64 wasn’t good enough and beat that score by another two shots! 62 was enough to take the top spot by an amazing five shots. Astonishing.

Burstwick’s very own Joe Coyle followed behind with a very solid 67, alongside Cottingham’s Alex Boyton, to take joint second place, a great performance from Joe who definitely has much more left in the tank.

Leading the teams was Alex’s team “Belt’s Boys”, followed by Cobie Atkin’s team from Hainsworth Park, and in third, fourth and fifth positions were teams from Burstwick, with professionals James Drinkall, Rob Caldebank and Danny Wilkes respectively.

A huge thank you goes out from myself to Darren Bamford of The Audio Room (pictured above with Aran Wainwright of the YPGA and winner Alex Belt), and all of the sponsors who helped make the day possible. Not forgetting my volunteer for the halfway house Paul Collins, and all of the 25 teams who supported the event!

A great day was had at the Team Audio Room vs Team Coyle golf day!

On Sunday 30th October we hosted the inaugural Team Audio Room vs Team Coyle Golf Day, which was in aid of raising funds for our Touring Professional Joe Coyle. The golf day, which was the idea of Darren Bamford (owner of The Audio Room on Savile Street, Hull) was designed around a 27 hole format, with an Individual Stableford in the morning and a nine-hole Texas Scramble after lunch.

There was a great prize table on offer which included a winning team prize for each member of the victorious Texas Scramble team, top three prizes for the Individual Stableford, four nearest to pin plus a straightest drive prize, and most importantly, a glass trophy for the overall winning team contested by Team Audio Room and Team Coyle.

Everyone played the golf in a great spirit and as usual with events here at Burstwick the banter was second to none, with neither of the two teams wanting to go home empty handed. On paper Team Coyle looked favourable with the lower average handicap but when the pressure was on Team Audio Room showed their prowess on the course.

At the half way mark the scores were relatively close at 18-14 to Team Audio Room, but it was all to play for with the afternoon Scramble. The teams of four put in some very low scores in the afternoon game, but the best score came from Sam Bamford, Laura Key, James Lambswood and Kurtis Bird who had a phenomenal 21.8!

All the players came in and enjoyed a delicious two course meal provided by the chefs at Café Nineteen and the prizes were awarded to the players, before the team Captains posed with the trophy.

Thank you to Darren for organising such a fantastic event, and Joe for his involvement in making it a great day! Also a huge show of appreciation goes to the sponsors who supported the event:
