Laura raises £1,800 for the Captains’ Charities
On Saturday 13th June Laura Key proved exactly how far community spirit can take you - specifically, about 50 miles. Taking to the fairways of the golf club, Laura successfully completed a grueling 100,000-step challenge, raising an incredible £1,800 for two incredibly worthy causes: the MS Society and Age UK.
The ambitious feat was organized in support of the golf club’s chosen Captain’s Charities for the year.
To put Laura’s achievement into perspective, a standard 18-hole round of golf typically clocks in at around 8,000 to 10,000 steps. Laura essentially completed the equivalent of over ten back-to-back rounds of golf in a single day. Starting in the quiet hours of the early morning (3am!) and pushing through until the evening, she kept her legs moving on a treadmill in the clubhouse and across the course, cheered on by supportive members, family, and friends who tracked her progress throughout the day.
The funds raised will be split between two vital organizations:
The MS Society: Funding world-class research and providing immense support for those living with multiple sclerosis.
Age UK: Providing companionship, advice, and essential services for older people facing isolation and hardship.
After havingaving done charity challenges before of 100 Holes of Golf in 2016, and then 24 hours of Golf in 2021, Laura said this was the most difficult challenge she had but watching the donations pour in kept Laura moving. The whole club is incredibly proud of her."
Thanks to Laura's determination and the immense generosity of everyone who sponsored her, these charities will receive a fantastic financial boost. If you happen to see Laura around the clubhouse this week, she’s certainly earned the right to put her feet up!
