Alex Belt wins the 2022 Pro-Am with Pro Sports Cars

On Friday 27th May we hosted our most high profile event of the year - our Annual Pro-Am. With headline sponsor Pro Sports Cars by our side we knew the event was going to be as big as ever, and we were determined to give our 40 teams a great day.

In the lead up to the event our greenkeeping team had been working tirelessly to get the golf course in the best condition it has arguably ever been. The greens were running beautifully, tees and fairways were manicured and the rough and bunkers were presented very well.

We decided that we wanted to make the course a little tougher this year as in 2021 the leading professional scores were -8, -8 and -6, so we wanted to show that Burstwick could also play tough if we wanted to set it up that way.

We got the greens to just under 11 on the stimp meter and put pin positions in tough places on the greens, but what we didn’t realise is just how windy it was going to be!

30mph winds coupled with a tough course set up and quick greens meant a recipe for a very difficult day for all teams and professionals involved, and this was reflected in the scoring. As the first teams started arriving in around noon it was obvious that 8 under par was not going to be winning the event this year, and even breaking par would be a tough ask.

In the end it was past champion Alex Belt who won the top professional of £1,000 with a score of 69 (-1), a far cry from last year’s scoring.

Comments from players all day were that the course condition (especially the greens) was the best they had ever played it, but it was a very tough challenge - feedback we will take on board for next year.

The winning team was three Burstwick lady members, Gina Key, Sam Bell and Gina Strafford, along with their pro Seb Thompson, who had a combined score of 126 (-14) - a fantastic effort in those conditions!

On the evening of the event our headline sponsor Pro Sports Cars drew the raffle for their fantastic £500 cash prize! A ticket had been given to every player who took part in the event - and the winner was Sue Taylor from the GRT7V Team! Congratulations Sue!

Thank you to the 160 players who supported the event, and to all the sponsors who made it possible for us to put up such a great prize table worth over £7,000.

Lastly a huge thank you to Joe Lamplough and the team at Pro Sports Cars who put huge amounts of effort and investment into this event making it one of the best Pro-Ams in Yorkshire!
