A word from Steve Alger, outgoing Captain of the club

Hi everyone,

It only seems yesterday that I was installed as Captain of the club yet here we are ready to move into Nigel’s year.

It has been an honour to Captain the club and I have thoroughly enjoyed my year, even cramming a whole season’s fixtures into 3 months which was, shall we say, an experience!

A huge thank you to the club owners, greenkeepers, bar and kitchen staff for their support throughout my year. Their efforts to make our club the best it can be, go unmentioned far too often.

A big thanks to our Senior Captain Steven Lees for mobilising the Senior section to support me throughout the season and Lady Captain Laura Key for just being Laura and making everything work (even when Alan was involved, sorry Al 😊), and also for her amazing effort with her 24 hours of golf (myself pictured with her below) raising over £1,000 for my Captain’s charity!

Special mention for the Junior Captain Alex Hewitson and the Junior section, the future of the club. Not only are they very talented they are a credit to the club and their parents.

I’d also like thank the Burstwick past Captains (‘Has beens’) for their support, contributing prizes and the banter!

My charity Am-Am was very well supported and the half-way house was very well run by my partner Maggie supported by Sally Holliman and Bob Leonard.  Thanks to all who played in the event and the hallway house team. A massive thank you to Stuart Kelman and Cranswick Foods who supplied enough quality food to not only do the Charity Am-Am halfway house but also halfway houses at two subsequent events.

My chosen Charity for my year was Dove House Hospice.

My Charity Raffle was very well supported and I will announce how much has been raised within the next couple of weeks. The raffle results are on the noticeboard and will be on the website soon if they are not there already.

Last but not least I’d like to thank my Vice Captain Nigel Colley for ferrying me to numerous events throughout the season and wish him every success in his year as Captain. The Burstwick Cup was a great success again but Nigel obviously didn’t get the e-mail regarding Vice Captain’s responsibilities!

Thanks again for all your support, it’s been emotional!

Regards,

Steve Alger
