Meet the Greenkeeping Team

You may have heard that we’ve recently expanded our greenkeeping team over the past few months and we thought you’d like to know a little more about the lads behind the mowers!

We now have a permanent team of five greenkeepers, plus the help of David Key who fills in where needed. This means that in 2022 we will have increased the total amount of labour time on the golf course by 3,000 hours.

Now for more information about the team members!

Head Greenkeeper - Mark

Mark has been with us since we opened in 2004, and did four years training in Sportsturf Management at Askham Bryan College from 2004-2008 and has various other qualifications needed for his role has the manager of the team. He also plays golf to a good standard of around a 10 handicap.

Mark is passionate about taking the golf course to a new level now that he has a bigger team and a lot more machinery at his disposal compared to years past.

Paddy

Paddy has been with us for three and a half years and loves turning his hand to anything. He comes from a lawn and estate maintenance background, and loves the mechanical side of things so you can often find him in the shed tinkering with machinery to get the best out of it.

Jarrod

Jarrod has been with us since April 2020 when he started as a seasonal greenkeeper as he came from a landscaping background. Jarrod also has experience of installing and working with golf course irrigation from a stint where he worked with MJ Abbott LTD. He has now come on board permanently and like Shawn, is a keen golfer and has been enrolled with Bishop Burton College.

Shawn

Shawn joined us in September and came from another golf club local to us where he had three years experience. Shawn is a keen golfer playing off a handicap of 6 and has an eye for presentation and the visual aspect of greenkeeping. Shawn has been enrolled with Bishop Burton College to do his level 2 in greenkeeping for the next two years.

Edward

Edward is our latest addition, an apprentice who is helping the team with maintaining the driving range and generally supporting the other lads.
