A great weekend was had by all last week as we held the 2021 Burstwick Cup in which Nigel Colley’s USA Team took on Steve Alger’s Europe!

The weather forecast was fantastic for this re-arranged event which was meant to have taken place in August, but due to a staff COVID outbreak at the club, had to be moved back. Considering it was October players were very happy being able to play the full weekend in warm temperatures and little wind.

After day 1 the scores were completely tied at 5.5-5.5 which is a very occasion in Burstwick Cup history! This meant that each of Sunday’s 22 singles matches were going to be critical in earning the cup for either side.

With a strong start on Sunday Europe took an early lead (Europe Captain could be heard from far and wide telling his troops that he had secured two points against the USA captain!). It was nip and tuck all the way through the day and it eventually came down to the final matches where the strength of the USA came through at the death.

As the finished players all gathered around the 18th green to watch the final matches come in and USA claimed a 18-15 victory, a very close weekend that was well enjoyed by all of the 44 members who played.

Congratulations to Nigel and his team on this well-fought victory against a steely European team!
