New Texas Scramble Handicap Allowance Changes from CONGU

The new handicap allowances enforced by CONGU and the R&A have caused a bit of surprise with our Captain's Drive In Texas Scramble results.

Texas Scrambles used to have 10% allowance for the team, but now the allowance is 25/20/15/10% from lowest to highest handicaps respectively, an example is illustrated below:

.tftable {color:#333333;width:100%;border-width: 1px;border-color: #a9a9a9;border-collapse: collapse;}.tftable th {background-color:#b8b8b8;border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #a9a9a9;text-align:left;}.tftable tr {background-color:#ffffff;}.tftable td {border-width: 1px;padding: 8px;border-style: solid;border-color: #a9a9a9;}.tftable tr:hover {background-color:#800000;color:#fff}

Player Old Allowance New Allowance
Team A - 30, 25, 20, 15 handicaps 9.0 shots 14.5 shots
Team B - 20, 16, 12, 8 handicaps 5.6 shots 8.8 shots
Team C - 10, 8, 6, 4 handicaps 2.8 shots 4.4 shots

What this means is scores can look drastically different, as a few have remarked to us since the weekend. As a club we have no say in what the handicap allowance is for this competition, the software cannot be overriden, but we will be looking at the data from this and previous texas scrambles to find a way forward.

This is not a statement to say that Saturday’s results were in anyway unfair, but the allowances have definitely changed the outcome drastically compared with the old system.

In the interest of fairness for everyone across the board, we will be discussing at the next committee meeting how we will move forward with the Scramble format in the future.
