Lee Webster clinches Burstwick’s 2025 Club Championship in thrilling finish
It was a weekend to remember at Burstwick Country Golf Club as Lee Webster was crowned the new Club Champion after a nail-biting 36-hole showdown last Saturday and Sunday.
The Club Championship is always one of the highlights of the year, and this one didn’t disappoint. Players battled it out over two rounds, with the top 16 gross scores from Saturday earning seeded tee times for Sunday’s final round — meaning the leaders went head-to-head in the last groups.
Lee Webster put in two solid rounds of golf, shooting 70 on Saturday and following up with a 71 on Sunday to finish on 141, just one over par. That was just enough to edge out Martin Fox, who came in a close second on 142.
It all came down to the final holes and there was plenty of drama. Martin drained a huge putt on the 17th to grab a one-shot lead, setting up a tense walk to the last tee. But golf can be cruel — Martin pushed his tee shot out of bounds on 18, opening the door for Lee. Keeping his cool under pressure, Lee held his nerve to see out the hole and take the title.
As a long standing member of the club, it’s the fourth time Lee has won this accolade!
It was a fantastic finish and a great example of what makes the Club Championship such a special event every year.
There was more to celebrate too — Andy Robbins had a weekend he won’t forget, winning the Ted Key Trophy for the best net score by an incredible six shots. A huge well done to Andy for that outstanding performance!
A massive thank you goes out to everyone who played, helped organise, or came along to cheer on the golfers. Events like this are what make Burstwick such a great place to play and be part of - it’s all about the club community spirit.
Congratulations once again to Lee Webster on becoming Club Champion, to Martin Fox for pushing him all the way, and to Andy Robbins on his brilliant net win.
Here’s to more great golf and another cracking Club Championship next year!
