Taking Care of our Golf Course is More Important than Ever
Taking Pride in Our Course: Why Every Member Should Help Maintain Burstwick Country Golf Club
At Burstwick Country Golf, we’re proud to enjoy one of the busiest and forward thinking clubs in the region, with some of the best greens. Keeping it that way, however, is a shared responsibility - one that falls not just to our dedicated greenkeeping team, but to every member who plays here. Small actions like repairing divots, fixing pitch marks, and raking bunkers after use make a huge difference in preserving the quality and playability of the course for everyone.
When you repair divots on the fairway, you help the grass recover faster and prevent weeds from taking hold. A simple pat down of the replaced turf or a sprinkling of divot mix ensures smoother lies and healthier fairways.
Similarly, repairing pitch marks on the greens is vital. Even one unrepaired pitch mark can take weeks to heal, leaving scars that affect putting surfaces and the enjoyment of all who follow. If repaired straight away, the damage is healed within 24-48 hours.
Raking bunkers is another equally important task, and one that seems to really be ignored by many golfers at Burstwick recently. Leaving footprints or unraked sand creates unfair lies for the next golfer and detracts from the professional appearance of our course. Taking an extra few seconds to smooth the sand is a small courtesy that reflects pride and respect for both the game and fellow members.
Ultimately, course care is a shared culture. Every member’s effort contributes to the beautiful condition of Burstwick, helping it remain a place we’re all proud to play. Let’s all do our part — repair, rake, respect — and keep Burstwick Country Golf Club at its best.
