Last weekend we held our Club Championship which is a two day event comprising of a strokeplay aggregate format. There are two trophies to play for in the event, the best net score over the two days is awarded the Ted Key Trophy, and the best gross score is crowned the Club Champion.

On the Club Championship weekend you'll usually find a lot of avid members going out and trying their best on the course in order to do themselves justice in this tough event that takes no prisoners. 36 holes of strokeplay is tough for even the most patient of player.

On day one Jack (2 handicap) posted the best score of the day with a level-par 70, closely followed by Steve Sorrenson (5) on 71, Scott Jackson (2) on 73, Lee Webster (3) on 75, meaning that on day two it was all to play for. Pressure was on Jack, as the holder of the trophy, to keep the opponents at bay and when Scott Jackson posted the first score early doors of 71 to make a total of 144, Jack had very little room for error.

Lee Webster posted 71 for a 146 total, and Jack was next to come in, with Steve Sorrenson going out slightly later.

Jack's round started the worst way that he could have hoped. After five holes the East Riding Union youngster was three over par, with a very difficult stretch of holes to come on the front nine. After keeping a level head, he made a very much needed birdie down hole six to get him back on track, and proceeded to tackle Burstwick's 'Amen Corner' (holes 7, 8, 9) in one under par to post a 36 front nine. Game on!

After successfully navigating the back nine in 34, Jack posted a total of 139 to lead the Championship by five shots from Scott. Still to come in though, was Steve Sorrenson, who had a fantastic first day score of 71.

Steve posted another great round of 72 in the afternoon to make a total of 143, but crucially for him his net total was 133, which meant that he snatched the Ted Key Trophy from the hands of Ashley Heidstra on 136.

It was a brilliant weekend of golf by the members of Burstwick, congratulations to Jack and Steve on winning their respective trophies, and well done to the 63 players who entered the event!
