We’ve been thinking a lot lately about what impressions our pro shop gives to golfers coming into the clubhouse at Burstwick. Being an integral part of our open-plan clubhouse, we’ve sometimes felt that the pro shop has looked a little messy in comparison to the clean look of the restaurant and bar (especially since the bar was refurbished).
Because of this, we’ve been looking at ways we can improve the look of the shop and also display our items more effectively. Having done a lot of research myself I’ve found that quite often in retail, less is more. Now there’s a phrase we hear a lot in our lives but in this case it really rings true.
In the past we have been victims of trying to pack as much choice into the shop as possible in the hopes that we can cater for everyone’s needs but this has had the opposite effect because it can easily look like a jumble sale, and that actually detracts customers from wanting to look in the first place!
Over the past few months we have been working on slowly reducing the amount of stock we have in the pro shop, and creating ways to display what we are selling in a much more clear and informative way, so that customers feel welcome and are able to see what is available in the shop.
Yesterday we built and installed a brand new Nike Golf display unit which now sits as the centrepiece in the middle of the shop, showcasing the latest apparel, headwear and shoes for all to see.
