Last Friday we hosted the inaugural Smailes Goldie Golf Day, in aid of raising funds for The Hull Samaritans. As long-standing accountants of ours, Smailes Goldie have been wanting to host their own golf day for a while and it was discussed that this year would be a great year to give it a crack.

I was quite heavily involved in the organisation of the event and knew from the first meeting that this day was going to be a very memorable golf day.

We decided on a shotgun start and limited the teams to 20, so that all the golfers would be starting and finishing at the same time, which creates a buzzing atmosphere in and around the clubhouse, as well as at the prize presentation.

The weather was very kind to us on the day, providing very little wind and mild, dry conditions. In total there was over £2,500 raised for the charity with the help of matched funding from Barclays Bank, a fantastic result for a first attempt at what could be a leading event in the area going forward.

The day went without a hitch and golfers were very complimentary about the course and the two course meal afterwards (one thing we always rave about is our food). It was a pleasure to host such a great day for a very worthy cause, so here’s to the next one!
