Jack Maxey is the 2016 Club Champion!

Jack Maxey put in a great performance on the weekend in the 36 hole Club Championship at Burstwick. This event is based on an aggregate strokeplay format, and two trophies are up for grabs on the weekend: the Club Championship Trophy for the best gross score and the Ted Key Trophy for the best net score.

The conditions were very scoreable throughout the weekend and on Saturday Jack went into the lead with a fantastic score of 71 gross, ahead of Knud Nielsen on 73 and Lee Webster on 74.

On Sunday players went out with high hopes and great ambition, and when the scores started to come in you could see that the pressure had increased with the thought of lifting the club championship trophy. Lee Webster posted a very uncharacteristic 81 while Knud Nielsen score 85, lastly Jack posted a 79 which meant that Alan Key (who was playing later on) had an outside chance if he shot 72 or lower - this did not happen! He also shot a 79, to finish 7 shots off the pace.

In the nett category Tony Robinson had a fantastic weekend shooting a combined total of 6 under par (134) to finish three shots ahead of second place David Maxey (a good weekend in the Maxey household!) on 137, and four ahead of Mark Willgoss on 138.

Congratulations to Jack on becoming the Club Champion for 2016 and to Tony Robinson on winning the Ted Key Trophy, two very deserved winners who played some great golf!
